Solo piano / Work draft no. 7

Ordo ex Chaos

Fuga-Toccata in C-sharp minor for solo piano · approximately 6:39 minutes

A fuga-toccata for solo piano: melodic fragments become a theme, countervoices and a dramatic arc between unrest and order.

Composition: Raphael René Lugmayr. Digitally rendered with Alexander Holm’s Salamander Grand Piano V3 (CC BY 3.0). Not a live recording.

What must be audible

I write music for the same reason I build software and businesses: to create something that did not exist and might endure. Music is a hobby I take seriously, with its own language.

  • A clear, singable main melody.
  • Driving energy through ostinatos, sequences and rhythmic momentum.
  • Independent countervoices that relate to one another.
  • Dramatic arcs of calm, density, rupture and resolution.
  • Acoustic credibility: piano, strings, concert guitar and organ.

Further works are developing in three imagined families: Vigilia for night, work and concentration at the piano; Tempestas for movement and conflict in an ensemble; Devotio for sacred and reflective works.

Leitmotif / Sketch & demo

The Ascent

D – A – B♭ – G | A – C♯ – D, in 6/8, D minor. Four ideas: foundation, leap, resistance, resolution. The fifth leap stands for resolve; B♭ and the descent to G add friction; C♯ leads to the higher octave.

The Ascent staff: D–A–B♭–G, A–C♯–D in D minor, 6/8

The motif connects the pieces through a shared musical idea.
